The modern sixth house attribution of “the work one does to make money” to the sixth house, as contrasted with the tenth house topic of “career”, is a subject of debate in astrological circles.
Traditionally, slaves/domestic servants were attributed to the sixth house. In modern times, this would be translated as, “people who work for you or who work under you” (e.g. if you are a manager in a corporate structure, or if you are a theater director or band leader).
In twentieth-century astrology, this sixth house topic has morphed into any drudgery work where YOU are the wage slave. For example, the actor (profession) who earns the bulk of their income as a bar person or restaurant worker (drudgery work). In this view of the sixth house, we see the native’s acting career reflected in the tenth house, and their drudgery work reflected in the sixth house.
Some traditional astrologers include this modern delineation in their sixth house topics, many don’t. The strictly traditional view is that if you are a restaurant worker, this is a tenth house topic, not a sixth house one. One would see both activities (that of actor as well as that of restaurant worker) reflected in the chart by connection in some way to the tenth house.
I will include delineations that consider H6 as “work one does for money” as opposed to career, clearly marking them as modern attributions.
